Join Ilfracombe Coast u3a

A friendly, welcoming community for people in their “third age” — retired or semi‑retired and ready to enjoy life’s next chapter. We bring people together across Woolacombe, Mortehoe, Lee Bay, Ilfracombe, Berrynarbor, Combe Martin and surrounding areas to socialise, learn new skills, and stay active.

Who can join?

Anyone who is no longer in full‑time employment is welcome. You might be newly retired, new to the area, or a long‑term local looking for new interests — everyone is welcome.

What does membership offer?

Membership gives you access to a wide range of Interest Groups, social events, and opportunities to meet like‑minded people. These groups are the heart of our u3a — friendly, informal, and run by members who share their skills and enthusiasm.

You can explore all groups on this website and try one as a visitor before joining.

How much does it cost?

Membership is £12 per year, renewed each January.

This helps cover insurance, administration, and access to the national u3a network.

What is the u3a movement?

Ilfracombe Coast u3a was founded in 1988 and is part of a national organisation with over 1,000 local groups. The u3a exists to help retired people stay active, keep learning, and enjoy life to the full — without exams, pressure, or prior experience.

How to join

Joining is simple:

1. Ask us any questions

If you’d like to know more before joining, contact our Membership Secretary using the form below or by phone. We’re always happy to help.

2. Complete the membership form

Once you’re ready to join:

• Print the membership application form

• Send it with a £12 cheque made payable to Ilfracombe Coast u3a

• Post it to the Membership Secretary (details are on the form)

If you can’t print the form, just let us know — we’ll arrange an alternative.
