Discovering ones hidden talents

Scented Hearts
Scented Hearts

I love running the craft group, I have a lot of help from other members, who come up with great ideas for things for us to do. We are a very friendly group who often have a great laugh attempting to tackle something new to us.

The variety of crafts we have taken on is huge, we have made lap blankets for a local care home and little fabric hearts for a charity that one of the members has been involved with for a long time; they are sent from a hospital to families who have lost a loved one, a lovely idea.

Our recent exploits included air drying clay and lovely stitched cards. Because we meet twice a month we tend to finish just before Easter, in past years we have found activities that some of the group can do away from our base, like fused glass and a talk about papier mâché from a local artist.

We have knitted, crocheted, sewed and painted, we had a go at papier mâché, some of us were more successful than others! There's usually something Christmassy in the autumn and we're always trying to find new crafts to try. Some of my ideas have been a bit ambitious but caused huge hilarity as we struggled to follow very complicated instructions.

It's such a lovely way to spend a couple of hours, meeting friends, chatting and laughing and creating lovely things. The group is very supportive and always tries to help someone who is struggling a bit with the day's craft.

I really hope the craft group continues to go from strength to strength, there are so many lovely ideas out there and I'm looking forward to trying more new things next year with some lovely people.
